About this work

Blue Room

After Abstract Expressionism, a group of American painters kept the big gesture but let it go slack and scrawled. Cy Twombly pushed that furthest. Blue Room belongs to that moment: loose loops and circles of white crayon drifting across a pale grey ground. The poster is a sheet of 250gsm paper, about a third of a millimetre thick. Acid free stock keeps the pale greys from yellowing. It lies flat and holds its corners. It suits a study wall in soft morning light, hung low enough to meet the eye from a desk chair. Nearby, the white marks stay crisp on the smooth sheet.
