Leda And The Swan

Paint, crayon and pencil share one field in Leda And The Swan, the mixed way Cy Twombly often worked. The swan and the woman appear as scrawled forms, pale shapes edged in red. Some strokes drag dry, like crayon pressed hard. As a canvas print it has body: a heavy cotton blend stretched over FSC certified wood bars, firm enough to hang without glass in front. The weave adds a slight tooth under the scrawls. Hallways suit it at chest height, near a door you pass each day. From there the pale shapes carry; at close range the pencil flecks inside the red come out.
