About this work

Min-oe

Contrast shapes Min-oe. Written strokes gather on one side and the blank ground holds everything else. Cy Twombly built many pictures this way, which keeps his work nearer to abstract drawing than to painting. The canvas takes the image over its edges, so no frame cuts across the picture. With so little happening at the sides, the writing floats free of any border. A hanging kit is included, and it hangs straight on the wall. Over a low couch in a room with a north window, the stillness carries from the doorway as one whole shape. From a step away, the separate flicks of writing take over, easy to count.
