Nicolas Irises

Distance first, detail second. At ten paces the tall portrait shape becomes a single flower painting; from a metre, Nicolas Irises by Cy Twombly breaks into quick strokes, drawing and writing meeting in the same hand. Both distances are true at once. Ready to hang straight from the box, with the hanging kit included, the framed poster carries a wider moulding that sets a firm border around the image. That frame steadies it against the wall. A hallway that ends in daylight takes it well at chest height. From the front door it reads as one clear flower; two steps in, each stroke stands apart.
