Anabasis (Xenophon)

Every line in Anabasis (Xenophon) reads because its tone differs from the ground behind it. A quiet field, and marks that show against it. Cy Twombly made whole abstract pictures from that simple pair, a calm surface and one restless line. Printed on canvas, the image wraps around the edge, so the line keeps going where the front stops. A hanging kit is included. No frame is needed. Nothing stands between the loose marks and the wall. It hangs above a low sideboard in a dining room, a hand width of wall between wood and print. Evening lamplight suits the soft surface. From the table, the wrapped edge reads as a thin shadow line.
