Anabasis (Xenophon)

Loose loops and scrawled handwriting carry the weight in Anabasis (Xenophon) by Cy Twombly, and the ground around them stays open. The eye enters where a line begins and travels with it, the way it follows a sentence. Whole areas are left empty. The poster comes in two sizes, from a sheet that fits a desk to one that covers most of a wall. Small, the writing stays close and quiet. Large, the scrawl reads from across the room. It suits a narrow wall at the end of a hallway, hung at eye level. From the door the loops read first. Closer up, the small marks inside them show.
